(Anchor Bay)
2009
What is it?
Five 10-minute mix-and-match cardio dance workouts that emphasize your core in the moves. Petra Kolber instructs.
Who is it for?
Advanced beginning through intermediate exercisers. The choreography looks harder than it actually is; that said, you do need to enjoy dance and learning new steps. Those with two left feet should probably look for more athletically oriented workouts.
What to expect:
The beauty of the 10 Minute Solution series is that you get a fun workout in a short amount of time. But occasionally you come across a routine where you're having so much fun that you wish it were longer than 10 minutes. Multiply that wish by five and you have this DVD. Kolber's a longtime fitness pro known for her stylish, creative choreography, and she's outdone herself with these workouts. The steps look great, feel great to do, and surprisingly, they aren't all that hard to learn. Each segment focuses on moves that work your core while you're dancing, but aside from that, they're all very different. "Latin Flavor Waist Sizzler" uses cha-cha-chas, mambos, merengue, and even a little tango and flamenco for its steps; "Dancer's Silhouette" is graceful without losing intensity (this one could really become the basis of a 30 or 45-minute workout); "Fat Burning Beat" is rhythmic and lots of fun; the jazzy "Attitude and Energy" is exactly what it says — Kolber really lays on the style here; and "Belly Blaster" uses lots of hip work and lively moves. Kolber keeps things moving with a cheerful attitude and flawless instruction. If you love to dance, this one will become a fixture in your home workout roster.
