Denise Austin: Burn Fat Fast — Cardio Blast(Lionsgate) 2007 What is it? A cardio workout consisting of a warm-up, cool down and four 10-minute mix-and-match segements. Denise Austin instructs. Who is it for? Advanced beginning and intermediate exercisers. It's a moderate intensity workout, so some intermediates will find it best for "light days."
What to expect: You either love or hate Denise Austin. Some people enjoy her bubbly, yet maternal persona ("You can do it!" "Your spine is your lifeline" — she says this at least once during every workout). Others find her grating, and are not fond of her cueing, either (Austin has a habit of cueing as she's changing the move, not before). So the good news about this DVD is that it actually has a music-only function, so you can turn off Denise's voice! And the truth is that after the first few go-rounds, you really don't need her instruction anymore, since the moves are pretty simple. The first 10-minute segment is basic kickboxing, nothing fancy; next up is a series of athletic-style drills. These two workouts are the most intense. The "retro aerobics" workout is a series of old school moves that I didn't find all that different from the final cardio dance section. Some descriptions say it's Latin cardio, but only the last 5 minutes of this segment consist of Latin choreography; the first section is standard cardio dance. It's really a pretty nice workout, especially if you do all 50 minutes — the four sections, plus warm-up and cool down. And if you only have 20 minutes to spare, you can choose just one segment, plus the warm-up and cool down. The programmable function is nice. Combined with the ability to work out to music only, this is definitely an Austin cardio workout worth having. Other Exercise DVDs you may like:
