(Lion's Gate)
2005
What is it?
Three 15-minute walking workouts and a 10-minute stretch session from famed fitness personality Denise Austin.
Who is it for?
Beginning exercisers. Austin starts you off easy, but there is enough material to keep you
challenged as you become more fit. For the third segment you will need 1 to 3 pound dumbbells, and you will need an armless chair for the stretch session (just grab a chair from your dining set and that'll do).
What to expect:
Starting a workout program can be intimidating, but it shouldn't be. Exercising is as easy as heading out your front door and going for a walk. Or you can do a walking workout without even leaving your home. Denise Austin's DVD offers the beginning exerciser 3 different 15-minute workouts based on walking routines. Of course you'll do more than just walk or march in place — there are side steps, leg lifts, intensity changes and a bit of weight work, but it's all easily mastered, even if you have two left feet. (And if you get confused, don't worry — it's more important to keep moving than to be on exactly the right foot all the time.) The first segment is a basic, easy walk — a perfect introduction for someone who is new to exercise, or who hasn't exercised in a long time. The second segment includes several more intense intervals to increase the fat-blasting quotient. The third segment takes it up yet another notch by adding very light weights that will help tone your muscles and give them attractive definition. (Don't worry — a 1 to 3 pound set of dumbbells won't make you look like a muscleman!) Finally, there's a 10-minute stretch to help you recover and gain some flexibility. Each of these segments is the equivalent of a 1-mile walk. You can mix and match the workouts according to your time and ability (you can even do all of them, finishing with the stretch, for nearly an hour's worth of exercise). Because of its versatility, you'll be able to keep using this DVD as your fitness level starts to increase, and Austin's chipper personality and warm support is encouraging. A great exercise intro for newbies.
