2007
What is it?
A 46-minute aerobic dance routine derived from various styles of Indian dance. Hemalayaa Behl instructs.
Who is it for?
Nearly any level of exerciser, although you need to be fairly uninhibited to enjoy the free-flowing spontanaety of this routine. There are some deep squats and some jumping around, so if you have knee problems, this may not be the workout for you. You won't need any equipment, and the dance is done barefoot, but you may want something soft to kneel on for part of the short floor segment.
What to expect:
This aerobic dance routine is about as far away from your traditional grapevines, repeaters and hamstring curls as you can get. While not authentic Bollywood-style dance, either, this workout draws inspiration from a number of Indian dance forms, and instructor Hemalayaa adds a lot of sass and style. The workout is divided into short segments, each with a different focus from the others (feet, legs, grounding), and Hemalayaa encourages you to add your own flavor, without worrying too much about adhering strictly to what the onscreen dancers are doing. This routine is moderately intense at its hardest and with its bouncing, hip shaking and easy pivots, you'll feel more like you're playing than actually working out. Because you will be jumping at times, it may be a little too high impact for those with knee issues, but anyone else who is willing to put aside their sense of decorum for 45 minutes will enjoy sweating to this fun routine.
