What is it?

It’s fun! It’s also an hour-long cardio workout made up of Brazilian dance steps, just like its title says.
Who is it for?
Intermediate exercisers with some dance savvy. Most of the moves are not difficult, but the choreography is fast-paced in places.

What to expect:
If you are bored by the grapevines, hamstring curls and repeaters that make up most aerobic videos, and even the cha-cha-chas are getting a bit tiresome, then give this dance-based workout a try. Instructor Vanessa Isaac builds a series of moves that come directly from Afro-Brazilian dance and has you working up a good sweat. Shot out of doors, it starts off slowly, with a 15-minute warm-up and some lo-impact moves, but soon enough you’re leaping around and following choreography that looks more intimidating than it really is. Issac builds the steps with a finesse that only comes from years of teaching and choreographing this dance style. It all moves along naturally, and with the accompaniment of a live Brazilian percussion group, it’s easy to fake the parts that you don’t quite get the first time. This exhilarating workout is a lot of fun for anyone who loves to dance, and even those who don’t catch onto steps very quickly can enjoy themselves. While the production values may not be on the same level as the videos and DVDs that major distributors release, the quality of the workout itself is very high. Only one caveat — this routine is done in bare feet, so if you’re exercising on a hardwood floor over a concrete foundation, jumping around may be a little hard on your soles. But then, it’s possible to have so much fun that you may hardly notice.
