Dance Off the Inches: Country Line Dance(Anchor Bay) 2009 What is it? A 35 minute low-impact, country flavored cardio workout. A 14-minute step guide shows you the main moves. Amy Blackburn instructs. Who is it for? Beginning exercisers. If you're a country music fan, so much the better.
What to expect: I'm not gonna lie — when I got this DVD in the mail, I inwardly groaned. There were a couple of reasons for this: 1) I'm an old school punk rock/ hard rock chick and I don't mix well with country music; and 2) the mention of country line dance led me to believe that this workout was going to be boring and way too easy. But after whining for a few moments, I shut up and put my bad attitude on hold. And it's a good thing I did because I actually enjoyed this workout. True, the intensity is low-impact, beginner's level, but it's not slow and definitely not boring. The step guide really comes in handy with this routine, especially if you're not familiar with line dance, and you may need to run through it a couple of times to get the moves down. During the actual workout, Blackburn does not slow the pace much when introducing the next step, and you need to have your homework done. So this DVD turned out to be a nice change of pace from the usual cardio workout — lots of kicks and "boot-scooting" but not too much arm work (you're often in "holster hands" mode, with your thumbs tucked into your waistband). Some of it is a little corny — I really doubt these steps will "round you up a cowboy," and I still feel a little weird doing a routine called "barnyard boogie" — but hey, it's country, so what do you expect? And with her Tennessee lineage and Southern accent (and hospitality), Amy Blackburn is the real deal. If you love country music, this DVD will definitely get you off the couch. And even if you're not a fan, like me, it's pretty infectious. Other Exercise DVDs you may like: |
