What is it?
A 45-minute cardio dance workout based on the popular Oxygen TV show. Your instructors are Jesus Solorio, Lisa Ligon and Hillary Fleming.
Who is it for?
The level of intensity is good for beginning to advanced beginning exercisers, but you'll also definitely need a flair for dance. The steps aren't hard... but they aren't exactly easy, either. Intermediate exercisers may find the intensity a tad too low.
What to expect:
If you love to dance, then this DVD will motivate you to get up off your couch. Based on the TV show, Dance Your Ass Off, and featuring winner Ruben Permel, this light-intensity workout is geared toward people who love to learn steps, but who have let themselves go. Between the warm-up and cool down, it is divided into three different segments: disco, taught by Solorio, Latin taught by Fleming and hip-hop, taught by Ligon. My personal favorite was Solorio's routines — he captured both the fun and the sweat. (Although Ligon is the show's lead choreographer, I thought the hip-hop routine would have been better taught by Kristin Jacobs, one of the DVD's background dancers, who did a fantastic job teaching the 10 Minute Solution hip hop disc.) The steps are pretty basic — a bit of hands and style are added on as you go along - but there is a lot of choreography and not a lot of time for dance newbies to catch on. As an experienced dancer and exercise DVD enthusiast, I got about 90% of this workout the first pass through, but I also realized that if someone didn't have at least a flair for dance, this workout would definitely be trouble for them. So beginners, let this be a warning, or an invitation: if you're not much of a dancer, find a more athletically based cardio DVD. But if you can't watch a dance show without wanting to leap up and join in, this workout will be right for you.
