The Firm Cardio PartyThe Firm: Cardio Party
(Gaiam)
2007
What is it?
A 39-minute all-cardio routine from The Firm. Five instructors (Firm regulars Alison Davis, Emily Welsh, Rebekah Sturkie, Annie Lee and Allie Del Rio Pointer) trade off instruction.
Who is it for?
Advanced beginning exercisers and intermediates who need a light day after a few tough workouts. This is probably one of the least intense Firm workouts, and you won't need any weights at all.
What to expect:
How you feel about this workout depends on how passionately you feel about other DVDs from The Firm. If you really love the four-limbed approach that combines weights with cardio... you won't find it here. If you secretly wish that sometimes you could just put the dumbbells down and just dance and jump through a straight cardio routine, here it is. If you've done a lot of The Firm's workouts, you may be familiar with many of these moves (and maybe even whole series of steps), since the instructors borrow a lot from their past DVDs. Each one does about eight minutes before passing the front spot along to a new instructor. The choreography varies — Davis uses an athletic approach, Welsh works your abs during her cardio segment, Sturkie's is the most complicated routine, Lee seems a little unsure of herself, and Pointer's Latin routine is a lot of fun, although not very intense. You do need to love choreography, since there's a lot of it in this workout. Personally, I found the instructors' attempts to seem personable and spontaneous to be a little over-rehearsed and a touch phony, but some people may like it. This may not be the first DVD you reach for when in search of a cardio routine, but on days when you're not sure what you want, it does offer a lot of variety.
