Masala Bhangra Workout, Vol. 1 |
Masala Bhangra Workout, Vol. 1(Masala Dance Fitness) 2004 What is it? A vigorous 36-minute cardio workout. Masala Bhangra integrates moves from Indian folk dance. Sarina Jain instructs. Who is it for? Beginning through intermediate exercisers. Some of the moves are high impact, so if you have problem knees or other reasons to avoid high-impact exercise, be forewarned. If you are really out of shape, don't expect to do this workout all the way through the first time — you will have to work up to it.
What to expect: If you're up for something a little different in cardio exercise, and you're not married to doing dance steps with 100% accuracy, then you'll want to check out the Masala Bhangra style of aerobic dance. It's based on Indian folk dance, and the workout is performed with a soundtrack of traditional Indian instruments and rhythms. After a quick warm up, Sarina Jain (along with four dancers) shows you 4 different series of step combinations. The steps aren't really broken down — Jain just runs you through them a few times. With Masala Bhangra, spontaneity is more important than perfection; if this frustrates you, then you're better off with a traditional cardio dance DVD. If you're willing to flub a little along the way, as long as you're working up a sweat (and you will work up a sweat), you'll find that you lose yourself in the hypnotic rhythms. You may even throw yourself fully into the little freestyle jam at the end. The great thing about Masala Bhangra is that it offers something different and exotic — and it still gets your heart rate up. Other cardio exercise DVDs you may like:
