(Rodale)
2005
What is it?
A 45-minute beginner's salsa dance workout, led by veteran dance pro and instructor Lisa Nunziella.
Who is it for?
Beginning exercisers on up, who enjoy dance-based workouts. There is a 6-minute instructional segment to help you learn the steps, but nevertheless, this routine works best for those who love to dance.
What to expect:
If you can't get enough dance in your exercise program, you'll love this workout. Right from the film clips in opening credits, you know that instructor Lisa Nunziella lives to dance, and this beginner's salsa workout puts together a series of fairly simple steps for you to get your heart rate up. That's not to say that this is an extremely easy workout. In fact, if you've never done real salsa before, it may take you a few passes to get down some of the basics (for example, most of the steps start on the "2" count, not "1"). To help you out, Nunziella has a 6-minute instructional segment in which she goes over the steps more slowly. You may want to run through this a couple of times before trying the routine for the first time, or afterwards to get down those steps that were giving you trouble. For fun, the workout includes live percussion. This series of basic salsa moves still gives you a bit of a challenge — there are enough steps so that you probably won't get them all down the first time through. If you want more, Nunziella also has a second, more advanced salsa routine.
