What is it?
An hour-long cardio dance workout from Shape magazine, plus an 18-minute bonus Pilates and Yoga-based toning routine. Instructors Lisa Wheeler and Michelle Dozois trade off dance segments; Wheeler hosts the bonus workout.
Who is it for?
Advanced beginning to intermediate level exercisers who love to dance. The choreography is taught at a fairly quick pace, so if you are dance challenged this one may not agree with you.
What to expect:
Both Michelle Dozois and Lisa Wheeler are known for offering up somewhat complex cardio dance routines, so when they host a workout together, you may think it's going to be impossible to learn. Luckily, the routines aren't overly difficult but it still may take a few passes through the DVD to master the steps. The workout is broken down into 5 different segments (not counting warm up and cool down), and you get a lot of variety — there are jazz, dance party, Latin, funk and tribal routines (although none of the segments strictly adhere to style). In addition, the DVD's "shuffle" system allows you to mix and match routines to make your workout shorter, longer and as varied as you wish. The bonus segment is a light toning routine featuring Yoga and Pilates moves. Wheeler takes the moves and combines them so that they are moderately challenging. It's a nice workout for those days when you don't want to go all-out on a resistance session. Overall, this is a fun DVD if you enjoy dancing and learning new steps. If you want something less complex and sportier, there are other workouts out there for you.
