{mosimage}Trainer’s Edge: Cardio Interval Training with Petra Kolber
(Koch Vision)
2004
What is it?
A 36-minute cardio routine that includes intervals and light toning segments. Petra Kolber instructs.
Who is it for?
Beginning to intermediate exercisers. Beginners may find it a bit fast-paced; intermediates will probably like it for days where they don’t want to exercise too hard but still want to work up a sweat. You will need one to two sets of 3 to 10 pound dumbbells for the toning segments.
What to expect:
Reebok Master Trainer Petra Kolber has designed a low-impact cardio routine that will burn the maximum amount of calories in the minimum amount of time. Instead of pushing you through a strenuous half-hour of nonstop movement, she intersperses the aerobic sections with one-minute cardio intervals and uses the recovery time to throw in some weight training. (Keep in mind that this isn’t really meant as a toning workout — the weights are there more to give you something to do while your heart rate slows down.) Kolber’s choreography is creative without being complex — she throws in a little bit of everything, from kickboxing moves to traditional grapevines. The workout is fast-paced, though, and it may take a couple of tries before you get everything down. This is a fun routine, and one of the least intimidating interval-based sessions around. It won’t be challenging enough for advanced exercisers or those who are used to interval training, but if you’ve never done intervals before, or have limited experience with them, you will enjoy this.
