What is it?
A 40-minute "fat burning" workout from The Firm that alternates cardio segments with light toning. It features Firm master instructor Alison Davis.
Who is it for?
Advanced beginning through intermediate exercisers. It may be too fast-paced for beginners, unless they want to try it out for a while without weights. Everyone else will need 3 to 5 pound dumbbells.
What to expect:
It seems that in the past couple of years, The Firm has been lowering the intensity of their workouts to make them more accessible for all levels of exercisers. Here is a fairly quick routine that has The Firm's classic "four limb" technique while still being easy enough for the less experienced. The moves are basic step touches, lunges and squats, but done in a not-so-basic way, with choreography that's not too simple, but easy enough for most to grasp within a couple of tries. Instructor Davis starts you off with an eight-minute combination warm-up and easy cardio segment, then alternates between lightly toning dumbbell routines and cardio, including a cardio kickboxing segment that's not too difficult. You finish up with a cool down, some standing ab work using one dumbbell, some stretching and upper body work. If you are used to the more challenging Firm workouts, this one may be too easy for you. If you have always wanted to try the Firm but was intimidated by the intensity factor and all the props, give this one a try — you just need a pair of light dumbbells and your athletic shoes and you're good to go.
