(Natural Journeys)
2003
What is it?
A half-hour fun and funky dance workout, plus a 10-minute bonus toning routine. The lively Madonna Grimes instructs.
Who is it for?
Beginning exercisers who love to dance. The moves are actually pretty easy to learn, but if you've got two left feet, you may want a more straightforward cardio workout. This routine may be too easy for intermediate exercisers, but it's enjoyable enough to use on light days.
What to expect:
If you think exercise is a chore, then you need a hefty dose of this workout. Madonna Grimes and her dancers give you a great time while getting you to loosen up and sweat. Grimes has the ability to make simple moves stylish, and she adds just enough hip-hop and funk to make you feel like you're hitting the dance floor. The steps are broken down in an easy-to-learn manner. (That said, it'll probably take you a few pass throughs to get everything down, including arm movements. And some moves, like the Wobble, have a little knack to them that you'll probably just happen on by accident.) The camaraderie between Grimes and her dancers is also fun. The 30 minutes fly by so quickly that you'll probably be inspired to do the 10-minute, all-toning bonus routine. This is just Grimes by herself, putting you through a series of squats, lunges and ab work with nary a spare moment. Your muscles will burn (and firm) so it's ten minutes well spent. The only caveat is that be careful of the turns if you're working out on plush carpet, and be careful with the neck stretches — they may be a little risky for some. But overall, this is an incredibly enjoyable workout and it's short enough to fit into almost any day.
