What is it?
A half-hour stretching and deep-tissue massage workout from Keli Roberts. Includes some core work, too.
Who is it for?
Any level of exerciser who wants to experience the benefits of working with a foam roller. You will need a 6" x 36" full tube foam roller and a mat.
What to expect:
Up until recently, foam rollers have been one of the best-kept secrets amongst elite athletes and rehab clinics. It's too bad, really, that your average exerciser has taken so long to discover this tool because it's downright addicting! The firmness of the foam roller enables you to give yourself a healing, great-feeling self-massage. And massaging those stiff areas breaks up restricted fascia (the tissue surrounding muscles), which enhances your flexibility and improves your posture and circulation. Not to mention the fact that foam roller exercises give you that "hurts so good" sensation that is blissfully stress-releasing! You get all that from Keli Roberts' routine here, and a little more. She leads you through moves that massage and stretch your legs, back, shoulder muscles and neck and explains how to modify the pressure to lessen or increase intensity. You also get a little bit of core work - not too much, since core exercises on the foam roller can be challenging, and this is a fits-all-types workout. The only real complaint about this DVD is that it claims that the workout can be divided into three separate routines, but the navigation doesn't work very well — it starts in awkward places and continues to the end of the workout, instead of stopping after 10 - 12 minutes. But half an hour is such a short period of time to do something so good for yourself that this shouldn't matter. You can do this routine every day, if you can schedule it in... and you may want to!
