Pilates Method: Precision Pilates(Koch Vision) 2001 What is it? Three 20-minute Method exercise routines, one for the upper body, one for the lower body and one for overall flexibility. Not a traditional Pilates workout. Who is it for? Beginning through intermediate exercisers — it's not too taxing but you do get a workout.
What to expect: First off, in spite of the title, do not expect a Pilates mat workout. Yes, there are a couple of Pilates moves, but most of the exercises on this tape are ballet or Yoga-based. Those who are familiar with instructor Jennifer Kries and the Method's approach will find this video easy to follow; those who have never tried a Method tape may be a little lost at first. But the exercises are all basic enough to master fairly easily (and if you get the DVD version, as a bonus you'll get to see the moves from three different angles so you can really perfect your form). Along with form, Kries focuses on breathing and awareness, which is what makes these exercises so effective (in fact, all exercise benefits from breathing, concentration and good form — something to keep in mind). Since the tape is divided into three short sections, the workout can be divided up and done on different days if you're busy, or you can do the whole video if you have a free hour. If you go ahead and do all three workouts, don't be surprised if you're sore the next day — you may not feel like you are exerting yourself while you're doing this video, but your muscles really are working. One of the best aspects of the Method videos is that they work both the muscles you can see and the deep core muscles that help keep your body stable and upright. Alternate this tape with some good, sweat-inducing aerobic exercise and you'll be on your way to having a longer, leaner body. Other DVDs you may like:
