santa fe stretch sue westThe Santa Fe Stretch
(Sue West Productions)
2005
What is it?
A 45-minute stretching routine based on Yoga, Pilates and dance, meant to enhance flexibility and strength.
Who is it for?
Advanced beginning to intermediate fitness enthusiasts. It helps to have a certain amount of flexibility already to do this workout. You will need a mat.
What to expect:
This is not your usual exercise DVD. That's clear from the beginning shots in and around the arty desert town of Santa Fe, New Mexico. While the majestic scenery and quaint Southwestern architecture may make you think you're watching a travelogue, instructor Sue West shows up to remind you that you'll be working out while viewing these beautiful backdrops. And this series of moves is as unique as its locale. West has combined Yoga, Pilates and dance moves and come up with something that's different from any other flexibility and stretching workout out there. Her approach is gentle, but that does not mean these exercises are all that easy — you already need to have some flexibility to execute many of these moves. And the second segment, set inside a mission-style building, will challenge your abdominal muscles. This is a pleasant and relaxing workout, not as strenuous as many Yoga routines and more serene than Pilates. It's a nice break in between resistance training days. And if you like the desert and Southwestern architecture, you'll enjoy the eye candy.
