tantric toning the stress free workoutTantric Toning: The Stress-Free Workout
(Goldhil Video)
1999-2004
What is it?
Elements of Chi Kung, Tai Chi and Yoga, blended into a light aerobic workout. There is a "color light" meditation at the end of the video.
Who is it for?
This workout is geared towards women, especially those who love a supportive, new age approach. Great for beginners.
What to expect:
This pleasant and surprisingly energizing routine doesn't seem to offer very much on the surface — the moves flow and you don't jump around — but when you're done you'll know you've had a workout. Tantric Toning is the creation of Stephanie de Phillipo, who leads a group of women through the "four elements" that make up the routine. If you are not comfortable with equating your workout with earth, air, fire and water — in other words, if you look askance at a new age-y approach — then this routine will probably make you a bit uncomfortable. But if you're willing to honor your femininity and your connection to the earth and spirit, then you will find this workout very appealing. Di Phillipo's cueing is both clear and creative — she paints wonderful visual pictures. Most of the workout is about posture, stretching and almost dance-like movement, but the "Fire" segment does get your heart rate up. The ending meditation uses color visualization — if you like that sort of thing, it makes for a nice mental cool down after the workout. If you're not into either meditation or visualization, it's easy enough to skip. This is a good video for beginners who are looking for a mind-body-spirit tape to ease them into a fitness routine, or for more experienced exercisers who want to try something a little different on their "light" day.
