What is it?
A 45-minute instructional video on the Universal Form, a three-minute routine based on Yoga, Tai Chi and Qi Gong.
Who is it for?
Judging from the class in the video, this routine is appropriate for any body type, regardless of age or weight. Yoga, Tai Chi and/or Qi Gong experience is helpful, but not necessary.
What to expect:
What can you do in three minutes? With a series of graceful but powerful moves, you can either energize your body or calm down. Martial Arts master Lawrence Tan has developed this routine to fight against the new millennium's most threatening foe — stress. Depending on how the moves are performed, the routine either gathers up energy or centers it. Tan teaches both versions of the Universal Form in a very clear, direct and sometimes colorful manner ("The mind is a drunken monkey," he explains at one point). He leads his class slowly through the moves at first and ends by putting them all together. The first segment teaches the energizing version, the second the relaxing version. Does this three-minute set of moves really do anything? Surprisingly, yes they do exactly what Tan says they will. You really do feel more powerful after the vigorous version of the moves and you do feel an inner calm after the relaxing session. It's interesting to note how intent changes the result of these moves.

It will take a few passes through this video to learn the Universal Form well enough to practice it anytime you either need some energy or want to center yourself. But after that, these moves can become an effective tool for everyday life. They certainly don't take the place of a regular Yoga or exercise routine, but they do enhance the activities you already practice.
