Yoga Dance: Fire — Fat Burning and Weight Loss(Questar) 2004 What is it? Three 20-minute loose, dance-based workouts meant to raise your heart rate. Actually it's all dance, no Yoga. The instructor is Sarina Condello. Who is it for? Beginning exercisers. The steps here, if you can really call them steps, are very easy to learn. The focus is on fun, not choreography. No equipment is necessary. In fact, since you do the workouts barefoot, you don't even need athletic shoes.
What to expect: This is the "fat burning" installment of Sarina's dance-based trio of workout DVDs. This disc offers up 3 very similar 20-minute routines. Each one includes a warm-up and cool down. Those who are dance-challenged needn't worry — the simple steps are based on folk dance, Gypsy dance and just a flourish of Flamenco, so the workouts are very easy to learn. Even beginners will probably get the moves down the first time they try this DVD. What is important to have is a sense of fun. Sarina is a trippy, rather New Agey type of teacher with a childlike sense of play. If you have a hard time letting go and just releasing yourself to the mood of the moment, then you probably will have a problem exercising with this DVD. If you're willing to just go along with her, you will get a nice, not-too-taxing cardio workout that's a good beginner's level. Incidentally, these workouts really don't have much at all to do with Yoga, other than the fact that they are mind-body-spirit influenced. In any case, more advanced exercisers probably won't find Yoga Dance: Fire intense enough, even if the segments are all done one after the other. Fitness newbies who are just starting out, however, will get a workout, as long as they're willing to feel a little silly. Other exercise DVDs you may like:
