What is it?
A 35-minute Pilates workout with moves that mimic Reformer exercises. Kara Wily instructs.
Who is it for?
Intermediate exercisers and up. You should have a good amount of Pilates experience, and it’s even better if you’ve exercised on the Reformer at least a few times. You will need a mat, and while light weights (around 3 lbs.) aren’t necessary, you might find them useful for some of the moves.

What to expect:
I’m fortunate to have had some experience working on a Reformer, so I was looking forward to the workout on this DVD, which combines classic mat exercises like the Hundred, Single Leg Stretch and the Teaser with Reformer-style moves recreated for mat work. This is an intense workout, and like most Pilates routines, the better your form, the more you get out of it. This is not for inexperienced Pilates enthusiasts, and it definitely helps if you have worked on a Reformer; I’m not sure if I would fully understand some of these moves if not for the private lessons I’ve taken. Wily’s instruction is excellent but spare at times — you do need to watch this DVD at least once before doing it, and even then, you will still need to peek at the TV screen for the first few times you do the workout. The routine finishes up with some standing work, and if you have 3-lb. weights, you can use them during this section.
If you’ve taken Pilates in a studio, you’ll find this DVD closer to what you experience there than just about any other Pilates home workout. If you’ve never had the opportunity to take in-person Pilates classes, this routine may not reach you on quite as deep a level, but you will still get in a wonderful, if challenging workout.
