Hilary Burnett's Pilates Intermediate(MGM) 2005 What is it? A half-hour intermediate Pilates video featuring instructor Hilary Burnett. Who is it for? Advanced beginning Pilates enthusiasts will find this routine just about the right level for them — intermediates will probably use it on days they don't want to push themselves. Not for Pilates newbies — you should already be familiar with the moves, breathing and technique.
What to expect: Although Hilary Burnett is not a household name in the world of Pilates, she has created a pleasant series of videos with instruction that is at least as good as some of the more well-known teachers. This intermediate program is really more for advanced beginners — true intermediates may find this routine a bit slow and only moderately challenging at best. Burnett creates some interesting imagery (she has you picture your midsection wrapped in Ace bandages), and leads you through the exercises in dramatically lit, nicely decorated surroundings. This makes a nice contrast to other, flatly lit and garishly decorated videos. The accompanying music — a simple guitar track — is equally appealing. Burnett's approach to Pilates is soothing rather than strict, with more of a gentle emphasis and less gruntwork. This is a calming mind-body program for days when you're not the mood for a more aggressive workout. Other Pilates DVDs you may like:
