| The New Method: Pilates Precision Toning & Sculpting |
The New Method: Pilates Precision Toning & Sculpting(Peter Pan/Current) 2001 What is it? An hour-long toning workout and 45-minute sculpting workout based on The Method, which combines Pilates, dance and Yoga. Both sessions feature Jennifer Kries. These workouts were actually released some years ago and have been combined and repackaged for DVD release. Who is it for? Advanced beginning to intermediate exercisers. You don't need to know Pilates — Kries coaches you through it. You will need a mat for the toning segment and some light weights (2 to 3 pounds) for the sculpting segment.
What to expect: If you missed these Method workouts when they first came out, this DVD is highly recommended. Jennifer Kries is an excellent instructor and her take on Pilates — called The Method — is a little different from what you might see elsewhere. It relies a little more on dance and Yoga than traditional Pilates. The toning workout focuses on the core muscles and lower body — you strengthen and lengthen the muscles. If you are not familiar with Pilates exercises, not to worry — Kries explains everything in a very clear manner. While you don't need to be as flexible as Kries (few people are, and those are mainly professional dancers), it helps to have some flexibility to get the most out of the moves. However, if you keep at it, you will not only become more flexible, you will gain great muscle tone. The second, sculpting segment concentrates on the upper body and uses light weights. The Method's approach to resistance training is surprisingly challenging — if you are used to using heavier weights, you will be amazed at how much effort it takes to work with 3-pound dumbbells. The great thing about putting these two workouts on one DVD is that you have your whole body covered. Alternate the sessions and combine them with cardio workouts and you have a ready-made exercise routine. Other Pilates DVDs you may like:
