Power Pilates: Beginner Workout(DVD International)
2004
What is it?
A basic 12-minute Pilates routine, with add-ons that can lengthen the workout up to 34 minutes. Also included is an 11-minute gentle back routine and instructional segments.
Who is it for?
Those who are fairly new to Pilates. The instructional segments are just audio over a still photograph, with no visuals, so it may help to have done other Pilates DVDs or an in-person class. You will need a mat, and one segment requires a Pilates Magic Circle
(which in any case, is a great toning tool to have).
What to expect:
These Pilates segments are taught in the traditional order that Joseph Pilates laid out, so they are great for people who are relatively new to this form of exercise. You get both a brief, basic routine and a variety of add-on segments (using a Pilates Magic Circle and a wall) that you can do, depending on your time and inclination. The instructor’s persona may be a little dramatic and stern for some people, but her cueing is actually quite good. That said, it’s best if you have at least a couple of other beginner’s DVDs or mat classes under your belt, since the instructional segment of the DVD is voice only — you don’t actually see the exercises in motion. There is also a great back routine for those who suffer from everyday back pain – office workers and the like. This is a good, basic DVD that is a decent supplement to the other Pilates routines in your library.
