What is it?
A 45-minute Pilates session geared towards moves that tone. Moira Stott-Merrithew instructs.
Who is it for?
Intermediate Pilates enthusiasts. While Stott-Merrithew is thorough, you should be proficient at doing the exercises in this routine. You will need a mat.
What to expect:
Like all of Moira Stott-Merrithew's workouts, this Pilates routine contains very detailed instruction. The first 12 minutes of this session is devoted to prep, and her cues throughout the rest of the workout are excellent — the way she explains each move really helps you put your core right where it should be. If you're looking for a fast, flashy routine, this is not it. On the other hand, if you're looking for moves that will build both core and upper body strength (and if you have some muscle power in these areas already), this series of exercises will give you results. Stott-Merrithew veers from traditional Pilates routines at times, but she never strays from what's important — the form. And while her approach is cautious, even if you are not doing the most advanced versions of these exercises, you will definitely be working quite hard. This is not the most exciting Pilates DVD ever produced, but if you're looking for personality and loads of tricks, then you're probably not a true Pilates aficionado. Those who love Pilates for the right reasons (the strong core and long, lean body, achieved without unnecessary frills via exercises performed from the inside out) will appreciate this workout.
