(Anchor Bay)
2008
What is it?
Five 10-minute abdominal-focused workouts that vary from crunches to no-crunches to cardio — quite a variety! Jessica Smith instructs.
Who is it for?
Intermediate exercisers — although these workouts are brief, for the most part, they are challenging. You will need a mat for all but the cardio routine.
What to expect:
While I like most of the 10 Minute Solution series, sometimes the title is a misnomer because the DVD is more like one 50-minute workout divided into 10-minute sections. I would probably not do just one segment alone. That's why I was so enthusiastic about this DVD — your core does get a worthy workout in just 10 minutes, so if you've got some extra time at the end of your usual exercise session, you can cue up and slip in some quick, effective ab work. The "Crunch-Free Abs" section is a modified Pilates routine, while "Ab & Waist Definer" uses a variety of twisting exercises to give your midsection definition. "Sexy, Sporty Abs" has some creative versions of traditional ab exercises. Even the short cardio section ("Bikini Belly") will make you sweat a bit while you're twisting and doing standing ab work. Only the Yoga Abs routine is a bit of a miss — the moves are core-centric, but not very challenging, and while the segment is meant to de-stress, there are other Yoga routines that do a better job of that. Smith is a friendly instructor, who cues nicely and you will definitely get a good workout from her routines.
