What is it?
Four targeted, 10-minute toning workouts and a 10-minute stretch, all of which use a resistance band (included with the DVD, if you are buying it new). Your instructor is Amy Bento.
Who is it for?
Beginning through intermediate exercisers. These moves may seem simple, but they are surprisingly effective. All you need is the enclosed resistance band (or you can buy a new band if you want a different resistance level), and a mat if you are working out on a hard surface.
What to expect:
Resistance band exercises have an unfortunate reputation of being on the wimpy side. That's not the fault of the tool so much as it is lack of imagination on the behalf of those creating the exercises. You can't expect a band to do the same kind of work that a dumbbell would do, so why have so many instructors just tried to emulate weight training moves with bands? The real secret to an effective resistance band workout — and instructor Amy Bento clearly knows this quite well — is to make use of the bands in ways that take advantage of its stretchy qualities. You want to build exercises that work the muscles throughout every part of the move. The five routines on this disc may only be 10 minutes apiece, but Bento makes the most out of every moment with compound moves that will have you working muscles you never knew you had! There's an Arm & Shoulder Sculpt, Butt & Thigh Blaster, Total Body Tone Zone (which contains complex moves that hit both your upper and lower body), Sleek & Sexy Abs, and finally, a really satisfying stretch routine. While these exercises are appropriate for beginners — one of the beauties of the band is that the resistance can be altered quite easily — a little bit of exercise experience helps, as Bento moves quickly through the exercises and you have to keep up with her. Intermediates shouldn't rule out this workout as "too easy," because the moves are unique and target the muscles in ways that are different from traditional strength training. This series of 10-minute exercise segments is a keeper for almost everyone.
