Basic Ab Workout for Dummies |
Basic Ab Workout for Dummies(Anchor Bay) 2002 What is it? A 40-minute exercise routine that focuses solely on the abs. Who is it for? Every level of fitness — there are modifications for both beginners and advanced. The time challenged will find a 10-minute "Fast Track" workout on the DVD.
What to expect: Abs, and nothing but abs. This for Dummies workout, taught by fitness expert Gay Gasper, features ten abdominal exercises over the course of a half hour (the warm-up and cool down bring the total workout to 40 minutes). It starts off with the basic, but effective crunch and goes from there. You find familiar moves, such as reverse curls and bicycles, but some of the exercises are less common, such as toe-dipping and abdominal circles. You get two sets of each of the ten, and Gasper concentrates on form, and keeping the moves slow and deliberate. All sections of the abs — upper, lower and obliques — are targeted at one point or another, so you'll fatigue all the muscles in the area if you are doing the moves properly. This is an abs-only session, so you may want to balance out your workout with some back exercises when you're done with it. Strong abs function best with an equally strong back. An even better idea would be to create your own abs and back workout, once you've mastered the moves in this program — it's an excellent learning tool, but not necessarily an end in itself.
