What to expect: There are a lot of exercise DVDs out there with fresh, innovative workouts. Doesn't that make you feel like a guinea pig sometimes? You push through a routine wondering if it's really doing any good or if it's just a here-today-gone-tomorrow trend. You do have a choice: make your workouts (and fitness level) a constant guessing game or create a foundation based on tried and true exercise science and proven moves. If you want the solid foundation, then add this DVD workout to your routine. While it claims to target the abs, it is actually a full-body workout (after all, the secret to great abs is building a fat-burning body so that there' nothing covering up your newly-toned midsection). Instructor Tom Holland teaches with high enthusiasm and three different levels: beginning, intermediate and advanced. It's a circuit training approach: after a quick warm-up, you do five minutes of abs and 10 minutes of both upper and lower body exercises. Rinse and repeat twice more. (Well, you're probably better off skipping the rinse until after the cool-down.) The exercises are familiar standards like squats, lunges, push-ups and variations thereof. Why does Holland use such basic moves? You probably already know: because they work and get you results. You can mix and match the three circuits to give you a variety of intensities or use heavier weights to make some of the exercises more difficult. Combined with a proper eating plan (like the one discussed in the Abs Diet book), you'll not only have great abs, but a fantastic body overall. Other Exercise DVDs you may like:
