What is it?
A 40-minute, mind-body style workout to improve flexibility and tone. Geared towards the baby boomer generation.
Who is it for?
Beginning exercisers on up. This routine is geared towards baby boomers, but you will need to have some flexibility, even in the modified versions of the poses. You will need a mat, a fitness ball and a light (3–5 pound) pair of dumbbells.
What to expect:
The best way to stay young for a lifetime is through regular exercise. But if you're already in your 40s or older, it's not too late to start. Dr. Lynn — herself a baby boomer — gives you this gentle, 40-minute routine to get you going. She covers all that's necessary for functional fitness — flexibility, balance and strength training — but instead of a traditional workout, she uses a mind-body approach that utilizes Yoga poses and a fitness ball. The former is flexibility and balance training at its purest; the latter gets you toned while keeping your core engaged. This gentle approach is great for those who are new to exercise or who think they don't really like working out. That said, you need to be a little bit flexible, since even the modifications may be tough for someone who is really stiff. If you're a baby boomer who already has a regular fitness regimen that includes Yoga and/ or strength training, you may find this routine too easy. It's definitely a beginner's workout.
