What is it?
A program based on the Body for Life for Women book. Includes a 30-minute full-body workout that can be divided into 3 10-minute routines, 12 mini-advice segments to be used over a 12-week time span, and a bonus "Smart Food Choices" segment. Dr. Pamela Peeke, author of Body for Life for Women hosts; fitness pro Ellen Barrett is the instructor for the workout.
Who is it for?
Beginning exercisers who want more than just a workout DVD. Combined with the Body for Life for Women book, this DVD can formulate a weight loss, body shaping plan that's good for your psyche too. For the workout you will need light (2 to 5 lb.) weights and a mat.
What to expect:
The Body for Life for Women Workout is more than just an exercise routine. In fact, there isn't that much to the workout itself — it's just a quick, 10-minute cardio segment and 10 minutes each of easy upper and lower body exercises. What you do get is author Pamela Peeke's glowing presence. A small woman with loads of energy and great common sense, she offers a lot of advice about living a healthy, fit lifestyle at any age. Her words of wisdom will ring true especially for wives and mothers who have too much to do in too little time — these are the ladies who need the energizing, distressing benefits of exercise and healthy eating the most. Included on the DVD is a 12-week plan to help you stay on goal. The dozen segments aren't very long, but each one gives you a focus for the week for your body, diet and attitude. Ellen Barrett teaches the exercise routine with her usual excellence and upbeat spirit. While it'll work best for exercise newbies, Barrett should inspire you to keep going and hunt out more advanced DVDs when you are ready. Or you can use the exercises from the book (they are different from the ones on the DVD). This DVD makes a great supplement for the Body for Life for Women book, but it also works on its own if you're looking for an organized way to get moving and get fit.
