What is it?
Two 30-minute sculpting routines, one focusing on the upper body and core, the other on the lower body and core. Michelle Dozois instructs.
Who is it for?
Intermediate exercisers — you're switching between equipment a lot so it helps to know what you're doing, and it does get intense at times. You will need two sets of dumbbells (probably around 3 - 8 pounds, depending on your level of strength), a resistance band (which comes with the DVD if you're buying it new) and a mat.
What to expect:
I love Michelle Dozois' friendly approach, good cueing and moderately intense workouts. I'm not the hugest fan of routines that use exercise bands (although I've found one or two I like), so I have mixed feelings about the two workouts on this DVD. Dozois has you switching back and forth from dumbbells to resistance band to mat exercises to standing exercises, and many of these moves are non-traditional. It will probably take you at least a couple of tries to get used to the fast pace of these two workouts. I felt the lower body workout was a little better than the upper body; it was easier to get the moves down and the exercises flowed better. The upper body workout contained some awkward band moves, and it was hard to get them right because the workout moved so quickly. The one thing I did like a lot was that Dozois had a couple of exercises in which your wrapped the end of the band around a weight for an extra challenge, and to keep the tension going throughout the move. Those exercises were definitely keepers, and I'll probably do them even during non-DVD workouts. Although easier modifications are shown, this is a straight up intermediate workout, partly because of the sophistication of the exercises and partly because of the intensity. If you're discouraged by the band exercises at first, do keep trying, because once you get the moves down, most of these exercises will grow on you.
