What is it?
Ten and 15-minute workouts for your abs, arms and shoulders, and legs and buns — three routines for each body part. Denise Austin instructs.
Who is it for?
Beginning through intermediate exercisers — the level of difficulty increases with each segment. You will need 2 to 5 pound dumbbells, a mat and a sturdy chair.
What to expect:
If you have been exercising with videos and DVDs for a while, you might remember these workouts on VHS, when each body part was released on a separate video. This DVD combines them all together. These are excellent, quick routines, and even the beginning segments aren't all that easy. There are two 10-minute segments for each body part, plus a more advanced, 15-minute routine. You can mix and match these workouts to suit your schedule and your fitness level. The abs routines are a combination of traditional exercises and Pilates, an Austin favorite. The arm and shoulder workouts are fast-paced, and ideally you should have two sets of weights, since you'll want to go lighter on the shoulder exercises and heavier on the arms and chest moves. The third routine in this series is especially challenging! The legs and buns workouts integrate ballet-style exercises into routines that also include squats, lunges and mat work. The first two segments are done barefoot; you'll wear your usual athletic shoes for the third routine. Denise's instruction is... well, Denise. You either love her chatty, maternal enthusiasm or you hate it. These routines, done regularly or added into your other workouts, will give you results, so unless you really can't take Denise's bubbly personality, this DVD is honestly very worthwhile. A special note: if you regularly buy exercise DVDs, you might recognize a couple of the background exercisers — Jennifer Galardi and Jeannette Jenkins. Both have excellent DVD workouts of their own.
