(Peter Pan)
2007
What is it?
A 45-minute sculpting workout that uses progression to build strength and tone.
Who is it for?
Intermediate exercisers. A beginner would have to be pretty fit already — or do this for a while without weights — to be able to master this. Since there are a lot of lunges, you also need healthy knees. You will need 2 to 5 pound dumbbells and a mat.
What to expect:
Not every exerciser enjoys being a jock. But that doesn't mean the rest of want wimpy, girly workouts, either. Well, maybe a touch of girliness is okay, as long as we can also fatigue our muscles and get the sculpted results we are looking for. Enter Elle Glam Fitness's Total Toning Workout. This is 45 minutes of no-nonsense strength training. It is not easy, even though you are using light dumbbells. But you don't get some barking PE instructor. Instead you get a group of girls who look like they stepped out of Self or Shape magazine leading you through a workout that seems pretty basic, but holds some surprises. You get the standard lunges and squats, but the instructor adds additional moves on subsequent reps so each segment gets tougher as it goes along (so if you're thinking, "Ah, this is easy — I'll pull out my heavier weights for this!" guess again). There are two lower body segments, one standing upper body segment, and a floor segment that offers exercises for your whole body, including abs. You do need to have healthy knees for this, so be forwarned. The girls all appear to be in their 20s, so if that's your age group, you'll feel like your working out with some of your prettier, skinnier friends. If you're older, you may feel like you're working out with your daughters, but don't let that put you off. Oh, and the girly thing — there's also a bonus make-up segment that's pretty good! Bet that high school jock never thought about that.
