(BMG Video)
1997
What is it?
A 45-minute video from The Firm that focuses on burning fat through its famous blend of cardio and weight training.
Who is it for?
Beginning to advanced beginning exercisers. Keep in mind that this tape requires a 12" to 14" step-up box (you can find a Firm Fanny Lifter on eBay), a dowel (a mop handle will suffice), plus light weights — depending on your level you'll need 3, 5, 8 and/ or 10-pound dumbbells (get the lighter ones to start and keep in mind that you may want the heavier ones later).
What to expect:
Those who are already familiar with The Firm series of tapes and practice them regularly may find that this cardio/ weight combo is not challenging enough for them. Those who are new to The Firm, however — and who are willing to invest in the required equipment — will find they've stumbled onto a workout that's not too long but still addresses all the necessary elements of a good exercise program. There's the aerobic segment to raise the heart rate and the weight-training segments to build up strength. While all the Firm tapes have this approach, each one contains a different focus. This workout claims to concentrate on fat burning. The truth is, any good combo of cardio and weights burns fat more effectively and it's surprising that there aren't more at-home workouts that take this to heart. The Firm's Fat Burning Workout isn't the most intense video — chances are that after a while you'll find the aerobic segments have become a little too easy — but it's great for those who are just getting off the couch and into an exercise program. Don't be intimidated by the need for the step and the weights — they'll come in handy for many different exercises, with and without the Firm series of tapes, and you should invest in them anyhow.
