What is it?
Three 10-minute semi-targeted toning and cardio workouts, plus a "bonus" 10-minute core workout. Jessica Poirer instructs.
Who is it for?
Beginning and advanced beginning exercisers. This isn't a tough or complicated routine. The only equipment you will need is the five "dots" used to lay out your workout space, which are included in the DVD. If you happen to get this used and the dots aren't there, you can make do without, as long as you use markers of some sort. If you are working out on a hard surface, you may want a mat for the core routine to cushion your knees.
What to expect:
When you have modifiers behind the main instructor, one doing the basic version and one doing intermediate, why cast two models with the same name? Every time Poirer began a 10-minute segment with, "This is Erin — and this is Erin also!" I wanted to groan. That said, this is a decent workout for those who prefer athletic-style routines and who are short on time. Most women will be happy that there is a decided lower-body focus to all three of the main segments, even though the first one was labeled for upper and lower body. Personally, I wanted a bit more upper body — a few push ups squeezed in between squats and lunges isn't enough for me, and I want my shoulders, chest and arms looking as toned as my thighs and behind. The gimmick here is that you use the dots included in the DVD to lay out your workout space, so you know where to move or put your feet. It does help when you are doing diagonal lunges, plyo jumps or twisting and reaching while you're lunging. In addition to the upper and lower body segment, there's a cardio routine, which consists of drills around the dots, plus squats and other lower-body exercises; a fully lower body routine, and the "bonus," which is a core and abs workout. You can do one, two or more routines, depending on your time and inclination. While the dots are helpful and fun, you don't necessarily need them to do these exercises. What you don't need at all are dumbbells, which will come as a relief to beginning exercisers who haven't invested in them yet (but you should buy some soon!). What beginners will need — and what they will get if they keep on doing this DVD — is some agility. The first couple of times you do these workouts, you might find yourself getting a little confused about which foot steps where, but it's not that difficult — you'll get it down eventually.
