What is it?
A 45-minute circuit-style workout, led by Tom Holland.
Who is it for?
Intermediate exercisers — this is not some wimpy "toning" workout. You will need at least 2 pairs of dumbbells and an exercise mat.
What to expect:
When it comes to working out, basic is often best — it's easier to perform familiar moves with proper form, and traditional exercises have a long history of proven results. But basic doesn't have to be boring — in fact, with Tom Holland's 45-minute circuit routine you don't have time to get bored. You are constantly on the move, going from biceps curls to squats to crunches to push-ups, with groupings of exercises interspersed with quick cardio bursts. This may be a strength training routine, but its fast pace will also have you sweating and burning calories. Holland works your whole body, and includes exercises for each major muscle group of your upper and lower body. And he doesn't let up — at the end when you think you're getting close to maxed out, he puts you through supersets that will thoroughly fatigue your muscles. His no-nonsense, decidedly non-fluffy instruction is a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of the frillier routines out there. The only way this DVD won't get you results is if you insist on using extremely light weights (you'll know they're too light if this workout doesn't tire your muscles out). You will need at least 2 sets of dumbbells, and if you have more, great — you will use them. After all, the same weight you use for shoulder raises is not going to be the weight you use for bent-over rows, and other exercises might require something in between. This workout doesn't have an extra ounce of fat — and you won't either if you make it a regular part of your exercise program.
