Hotlegs Workout with Penny Lancaster Hotlegs Workout with Penny Lancaster
(Firefly/ Wellgo)
2005
What is it?
An hour-long, full-body workout led by Rod Stewart's fiancée, supermodel Penny Lancaster.
Who is it for?
Beginning exercisers. For the most part, the moves aren't too intense, but those new to a fitness lifestyle will get a workout. The only equipment you'll need is a mat.
What to expect:
Never mind the title — this is actually a full body workout. "Hotlegs" is no doubt a reference to the long limbs of the workout's host, Penny Lancaster (her nickname is actually Hot Legs), and a big nod to the 1970s hit song by fiancé Stewart. This routine actually exercises the whole body, offering posture, stretching, cardio and resistance moves. Unlike most celebrities who do exercise videos, Lancaster has a background in fitness and her brother, Oliver, who is also in the video, is a trainer. That said, the moves are a little dated — Lancaster has obviously been busy with activities other than keeping up on fitness trends. But the workout is a good start for a beginning exerciser. The cardio moves are easy to learn, if a tad corny and you do work every major muscle group (the abdominals section is especially good). Lancaster fits in a lot of stretching, a very good habit for newer exercisers to adopt, and none of the segments last too long, which keeps boredom at bay. The seaside resort setting is also nice. Overall, this is a good workout for those without a lot of exercise experience. Those who have been exercising regularly for more than a few weeks or months will want something more challenging.
