(Razor Digital)
2008
What is it?
51 minutes' worth of working out — cardio with an emphasis on light toning and flexibility. The segments can be mixed and matched or stand alone, and are based on Tracey Mallett's book, Sexy in 6. Mallett instructs.
Who is it for?
Intermediate exercisers, although it's not too difficult for advanced beginners to tackle. You'll need one or two pairs of 3 to 5 pound dumbbells and a mat.
What to expect:
I spend a lot of time at the computer with my mind buzzing, so it's nice to have a workout that doesn't make me think too much. Tracey Mallett has done all the heavy lifting here, when it comes to creating simple moves that work the most muscles in the least amount of time — no heavy choreography and no complex moves (even when they're compound moves). This DVD is programmable, so you can do all seven 6-minute workouts (plus warm-up and cool down), choose from the pre-built selections that last anywhere from 28 to 40 minutes, or create your own workout, tailored to your time schedule. The first three segments are a combination of cardio and light weight moves (these are done at a cardio pace, so choose a lighter weight than normal). The second three are mind-body routines, done with a mat; the first one is Yoga poses, the second is Pilates, and the final one is core work. Wrapping it up is an abdominal segment. The great thing about these segments is that Mallett can amp up the intensity without discouraging you — a clock at the bottom of the screen tells you exactly how much time you have left and it's never very much. You moms especially will enjoy this DVD because Mallett talks to you directly (she is a mother herself), and the women exercising along with her are all mothers who had to work to get their bodies back post-pregnancy. And the segments make exercise easy to fit in when you're time-crunched. But even if you have no kids, don't worry — Mallett works you out just as hard!
