(Bayview)
2008
What is it?
Over 60 minutes' worth of full-body strength training, led by veteran fitness pro Rob Glick.
Who is it for?
Intermediate through advanced exercisers. Even with lighter weights, you will work hard and need some endurance. You will also need a step, a mat and at least two pairs of handweights appropriate to your level (anywhere from 3 to 10 pounds).
What to expect:
"No muscle left behind" — that seems to be the underlying theme for this workout. Glick hits every muscle group, and hits them well (not all so-called full body workouts do this). The routine comes in three different segments, each one finishing up in a way that enables you to hit "pause" and grab some water or maybe stretch out a bit. And if you make it all the way through this DVD without hitting the pause button once, my hat's off to you. It's a tough workout. The great thing is that it's never a chore because Glick's friendly personality, creative moves and excellent cueing keep it interesting and engaging.

The first part of the workout is devoted to mostly lower body moves, with lots of lunges that use the step from several different angles. Glick mixes in some upper body, such as shoulder presses, and glute work too. The second segment focuses on the upper body, although there are also a number of combination moves that involve squats and plies. There is a push-up series done on and off the step that will really surprise your muscles. The final segment is for your core, and that really means your whole core — the upper and lower sections of your abs, your upper and lower back and your obliques. Glick is very thorough. There is a modifier to make things easier, but this workout never falls below an intermediate level. It will challenge you and you will work hard, but Glick is so likable that you will want to come back for more — at least you will once your muscles recover!
