What is it?
Nearly an hour's worth of basic, mix-and-match workouts, including cardio, toning and yoga. Chris Freytag instructs.
Who is it for?
Beginning and advanced beginning exercisers. These segments are easy to follow. You will need 3 to 5 pound dumbbells, a sturdy chair and a mat.
What to expect:The routines and recommendations in this DVD are derived from the book The Sugar Solution, but you don't need to have read it (or even know anything about it) to get the benefits of these quick-but-effective workout segments. There are sections here for every aspect of fitness — cardio, toning and flexibility — which make it perfect for those who are just getting into (or getting back into) fitness. In addition to the warm-up and cool down, there is a light, low-impact cardio routine (15 minutes), 3 different 8-minute toning segments, each one focusing on a different body part — upper body, core or lower body — and an easy 10-minute Yoga routine. They are all beginner level, but the only one beginners may grow out of quickly is the cardio (your endurance level will probably adjust pretty quickly to this walking-style workout). The toning segments can be made more difficult by using heavier weights or using the advanced level modifications. You can't program your own workout combinations, but you can choose from a variety of 20 and 30-minute pre-programmed routines — or if you have an hour, you can do the whole DVD. You'll also find some quick tips on eating right so you keep your energy level high throughout the day, without the highs and lows you can get from "sugar spikes." As always, Chris Freytag is a warm and encouraging instructor who cues well. Beginners will appreciate these basic, but never boring, workouts.
