What is it?
A 40-minute workout geared to tone and firm your gluteal muscles, aka your butt.
Who is it for?
Advanced beginning to intermediate exercisers — it's possibly a bit too intense for exercise newbies; highly experienced exercisers may find it too easy. That leaves a big cross section of those you in the middle. You will need a pair of light weights (2 to 5 lbs.) and a mat.
What to expect:
There are butt workouts and there are butt workouts. If you've searched for ways to firm up your rear end and found that most supposed butt-blasters focus on your legs as much as they do your glutes, you know what I mean. This is fine if you want an overall lower body routine, but if you want something really targeted, then it's not such a great thing. Which leads us to this 40-minute DVD hosted by Violet Zaki — it zeroes in on your rear like a laser beam and works it 'til it hurts... then stretches it out again for an all-around excellent exercise session. Your rear gets worked a number of different ways. After a short warm-up, Zaki starts you off with some kick boxing moves. She then moves onto the weight-training segment. These first two segments offer the most intense exercises. The next segment is dance inspired, with pliés that'll burn, and the final segment contains Yoga-influenced moves to help you focus while you're continuing to tone. Yes, there are squats and lunges that will work the rest of your lower body, but it's clear from start to end that the focal point here is your rear. It's a good, challenging-but-not-overwhelming workout that'll help you shape your back end. You also get a 5-minute bonus ab workout that's pretty intense, too.
