What is it?
A 37-minute cardio and light resistance training workout. Ellen Barrett instructs.
Who is it for?
Advanced beginning to intermediate level exercisers. You will need a pair of 2 to 5 pound dumbbells.
What to expect?
If you're one of those people who hate the monotony of many exercise routines, you'll love this DVD. You get 4 different routines, plus warm-up and cool down in under 40 minutes. There are ballet moves for grace and tone, a light plyometric routine to shape, body sculpting with weights and more. All of it gets your heart rate up and while the resistance training is on the light side, no muscle gets left behind. Ellen Barrett leads you through each segment in a cheerful but no-nonsense manner. The only thing a bit strange about this DVD is its Italian-themed background music — it may have you thinking of Chianti, checkered tablecloths and a plate of spaghetti instead of dumbbells, pliés and V-steps. But that's a small complaint for a workout that in every other way is a good, solid exercise session. There's also a quickie "Body Bonus Extra" called "Total Body Turnaround." It's a toning session with weights that lasts only a few minutes, but Barrett invites you to do it two or three times to give yourself a real workout. Add it to the rest of the DVD and you have 45 to 50 minutes' worth of exercise that both burns calories and shapes your muscles.
