Shape Toning Workout: Bikini Body All Year-Round(Current) 2005 What is it? Four 15-minute mix-and-match, targeted toning segments, plus a bonus 20-minute fat burning interval workout. Your instructors are Lisa Wheeler and Michelle Dozois. Who is it for? Advanced beginning to intermediate exercisers. You will need at least one pair of dumbbells, but up to 3 pairs would be useful (think sets of 3, 5 and 8 lbs.).
What to expect: This series of workouts from Shape focuses on different body parts for each segment — abs, butt and hips, thighs and upper body. Because the exercises target one body part and often involve more than one muscle group, you get what you need in just 15 minutes. Michelle Dozois and Lisa Wheeler are veteran instructors who cue you almost intuitively. The exercises themselves are creative variations on traditional moves like lunges and crunches that really fatigue the muscles and give you the most out of the brief workouts. The DVD is programmable — you can do one segment if you're short on time, or more if you want a full workout. You can also shuffle the exercises themselves to "keep your muscles guessing" (although the shuffle also makes for a workout that might jump around a little too much). The bonus interval workout is a nice way to get your muscles warmed up — at 20 minutes it's not too long and you can combine it with 2 or three segments for a solid, all-around exercise session, or you can do it twice through for a longer cardio workout.
