What to expect:
Even Tamilee Webb, who hosts this video (and a couple dozen other exercise tapes), admits that you won’t build an eye-catching body in just 15 minutes of exercise a day. Nutrition and cardio activity also come into play. But resistance training is a big part of creating a strong, shapely body and these two workouts offer quick routines to the time-challenged. They’re time effective because they’re made up of compound moves that work more than one muscle — you’re working both your legs and your biceps, for example, or performing a one-legged squat, which engages all your leg muscles. And the moves have been scientifically tested for their effectiveness in toning and building strength (at the beginning of the video we actually see Ms. Webb wired up and researchers taking notes). As far as brief workouts go, you can’t get much better than these two, but you do need to keep a couple things in mind: not all muscle groups are worked. Noticeably lacking are chest and back exercises and, except for the obliques, there are no abdominal exercises at all in the second workout. You may want to add these in at the end, or exercise these muscles on an alternate day. You also should take Webb’s advice and use heavier weights — when you have a limited time for exercise, working with light weights won’t get you results. The routines are very fast paced so it may take beginners a few tries (or some rewinding) to get the moves down, but the effort is worth it. Intermediate exercisers, especially those who are willing to grab a heavier set of dumbbells, will like using this tape on days when they’re short on time but still want a workout.
