The Firm: Total Body Time Crunch(GT Media)
2007
What is it?
A 45-minute toning/cardio blend from The Firm. There’s also a 25-minute “express” sculpting version without the cardio segments. Master instructor Rebekah Sturkie instructs.
Who is it for?
Intermediate exercisers. A modifier is shown using no weights, but you really will want to use weights for this workout, even if you have to start off light. You’ll need 3 to 8 pound dumbbells
or, even better, The Firm’s CardioWeight™ System.
Also a mat for a few exercises, if you’re working out on a hard surface.
What to expect:
Some exercisers complain about the semi-complicated choreography for this entry in the Firm series. Me? I love complex moves — they keep my attention on the workout and I bore easily. Granted, the warm-up and some of the cardio segments take a little patience to get right — I zigged where I should have zagged on several occasions — but I never got so confused that I lost my way. Plus, if I had more time to spend with this DVD, I’m sure I would have gotten the moves down after a couple more tries. Most intermediate exercisers who have a few cardio dance DVDs under their belts should not have a problem. The weight segments are great — Sturkie starts you off with a targeted exercise — working your biceps or triceps, for example — and builds from there, adding in moves that work other body parts. Within a limited amount of time, you’ve worked every muscle group in your upper and lower body, your abs, and had a couple of balance-challenging add-ons too. Because Sturkie doubles up on the dumbbells for a few exercises, the Firm’s Cardio Weights, with their handles, are really effective here. The 25-minute express workout is a compact, all-sculpting version of the main workout, for days when you want to get the most bang for your time.
