What is it?
A 55-minute circuit routine that combines cardio and compound exercises with functional fitness. Jen Carman instructs.
Who is it for?
Intermediate exercisers and up — this is a pretty hardcore routine, even though you will probably use a slightly lighter weights than normal (most likely in the 2 to 8 lb. range). You will also need a medicine (weighted) ball (2 to 6 lbs.) and a mat.
What to expect:
Those of you who have done the Firm workouts will know what to expect from this one — both Tracie Long (the TL of TLT, and creator of this exercise style) and Jen Carman are former FIRM instructors. But TLT differs from the Firm in that more emphasis is placed on balance and development of the stabilizing muscles, which enhances functional fitness. So with this workout, you not only get a toned physique, you also build muscle in a way that be useful in your every day life and help you stay fit into old age. The circuits of Strength In Movement alternate between some tough, fast-paced weight-training segments and cardio bursts that use the medicine ball. You work your body from all angles and every muscle gets its due. There are also balance challenges that you may have to work towards — only really experienced exercisers will make it through the whole workout with the advanced modifier. There is also a modifier doing easier versions, so you always have something to fall back on when your muscles begin to fatigue. If you are serious about getting results that you can both see and feel, you will find this TLT workout especially satisfying.
