What is it?
Four short Yoga routines, each with a different focus and a little over 15 minutes long. Your instructors are Rodney Yee and Mariel Hemingway.
Who is it for?
Advanced beginning and intermediate Yoga enthusiasts - this is one Yee DVD where you don't get a whole lot of instruction. You will need a mat, and for one routine, a strap. A block is optional — if you'll need it, you probably already have it.
What to expect:
If you're accustomed to Yee's poetic, serious instruction, get ready to see a completely different side of him here. He's relaxed, casual and conversational. He jokes around with actor Mariel Hemingway (who got so deeply into Yoga that she became an instructor herself). I get the feeling that if you were to take a class from Yee in person, this is more who you would get than what you see on some of his other DVDs. There are four routines here — a total body vinyasa flow, an upper body-focused routine, a lower body routine and one for abs. They're not intense, fit-everything-you-can-into-15-minute sessions; rather, they're quick pick-me-ups — great as a healthier replacement for your usual morning cup of coffee. Yee and Hemingway toss in a few nontraditional moves — there is a little jumping around and arm-swinging to raise energy — but the majority of poses in the first three workouts are familiar Sun Salutations, Warriors, Triangles and the like. The abs routine is a little different — you're sitting or lying on your Yoga mat the whole time for some Yogi-style core work. Each segment ends with a brief Shavasana. These aren't so much strength-building routines as they are energizing, calming and centering routines, so you won't want to ditch your regular Yoga practice in favor of this. But this is a nice DVD to have for times when you need a quick shot of Yoga to get grounded and feel good.
