Sara Ivanhoe's 20 Min. Yoga Makeover: Flat Abs(Natural Journeys) 2004 What is it? A 20-minute Yoga routine, led by Sara Ivanhoe, which targets the abdominal region. Who is it for? Advanced beginning Yoga enthusiasts. Having a core with a bit of strength already helps — these may be too challenging for those who are real newbies. You will need a mat.
What to expect: When people think of Yoga in relation to the abs, they usually picture Plank and Boat pose. Sara Ivanhoe certainly gives you those poses in this quickie Yoga workout, but she also offers up a whole lot more. How about standing twists while raising one knee? How about a Yogic version of bicycle crunches? How about lying side twists done mindfully and oh-so-slowly? This is a Yoga workout that will really challenge your abs. It isn't a purist's Yoga session, however — Ivanhoe has borrowed freely from Pilates and traditional exercise to enhance a number of these moves. Because abdominal workouts tend to be fairly short and rely on body weight alone, 20 minutes seems to be about right for this routine. (The others in the 20 Min. Yoga Makeover series sometimes seem a little too brief.) You'll work your abs and your spine and end the session with a pleasant feeling.
