What is it?
A 20-minute Yoga-with-weights routine, led by Sara Ivanhoe.
Who is it for?
Advanced beginning exercisers and Yoga enthusiasts — you should be a little familiar with Yoga and/ or weight training, but you don't have to be an expert at either. You'll need light dumbbells, from 2 to 5 pounds, and a mat.
What to expect:
So you've only got 20 minutes to workout — which do you choose, Yoga or weights? With this routine from the 20 Min. Yoga Makeover series, you get to do both. The serenely cheerful Sara Ivanhoe leads you through a routine that combines familiar Yoga poses, such as Chair and Warrior II, with light upper body toning. You will want to use a lighter weight than you might use if you were doing a regular weight routine — some of the poses challenge your balance while you're lifting the dumbbells. Especially challenging is attempting Eagle while holding a pair of weights! Yoga purists will probably scoff at Ivanhoe's unconventional approach, but those who enjoy Yoga as part of their fitness routine will welcome the chance to do a quickie workout that combines light toning with Yoga poses. It will probably be too easy for advanced exercisers (if you're one of those, you might want to try the challenging Iron Yoga), but those who are recent fitness converts will like it.
